The person behind Tin Shed

Richard Dann

Deep technical thinking. Real-world results.

Financial risk modelling expert, software developer and product builder. I connect complex mathematics, data and technology to create systems people can actually use.

From institutional finance to satellite science, from AI platforms to the everyday workings of a business, I turn difficult problems into practical software.

A connected way of thinking

The maths matters.
So does the person using it.

I bring the analytical depth of a financial modeller and the practical instincts of a software builder. I enjoy getting to the heart of a problem: understanding the data, questioning the assumptions and working out what will make a meaningful difference.

That can mean developing sophisticated pricing and risk models, turning satellite imagery into water-quality insights, or building a booking system that gives a busy team hours of its day back. The common thread is making complexity useful.

At Tin Shed, I bring those disciplines together, helping businesses and founders shape an idea, build the right foundations and turn it into a working product.

Quantitative depth

More than two decades in financial risk.

I have spent 20+ years as a financial risk modelling expert, developing state-of-the-art pricing and risk models for one of the world's largest custody banks and asset managers.

Working at that level brings a particular discipline: the mathematics must stand up, the implementation must be dependable, and the results must make sense to the people making decisions.

That experience shapes how I build today. I look beyond the interface to the quality of the underlying model, the integrity of the data and the behaviour of the system when the inputs get complicated.
